1/ Bitterness folds
The bitterness fold, also known as Marionette lines, is a fold that starts at the corner of the mouth and extends down to a hollow of the jaw, located behind the chin.
This bitterness fold is a result of the action of a muscle called the Depressor Anguli Oris, which is fixed at the corners of the mouth. Over time the muscle can pull these corners down. In young people, it causes a fold that is synonymous with bitterness or sadness.
In later life, this fold will be underlined by facial fat that accumulates above it, and over time it will develop into a sagging jowl.
To reduce the risk of the fold developing into a jowl, treatment should be done at an early stage. This follows a very specific protocol and is treated by Dr Trevidic.
TREATMENT
At first, the tone of the muscle responsible for tightness is reduced with the use of botulinum toxin. In a second step, usually a fortnight later, any depression that remains is treated with a hyaluronic acid filler.
This combined technique involves the two key products fighting against wrinkles. This combination promotes a more natural result as it reduces the need to use a larger quantity of hyaluronic acid. If too much hyaluronic acid is used, it may cause visible lumps in the area, causing a rigid smile.
