Practical Information

No aspirin 24 to 48 hours before injection. Apply
EMLA (anaethestic cream) 2 hours before your injection.
Don't forget to have ice ready in your freezer, as you will need to apply it to the injection site when you return home.

Wrinkles

Upper face

Wrinkles on the upper face are generally treated with Botulinum Toxin (Botox or Dysport). Botox has been in use since 1982 in neurological medicine. It treats wrinkles at the source by diminishing or stopping the muscle action that causes them.
Because the product is injected at a very low dose, there are very few noticeable side-effects or complications. Botox is most often very well-tolerated, without any known allergic reactions. Its effects are totally reversible in 6 to 12 months.
Injections are performed in the doctor's office without anaesthesia. As the injection dose is small, pain is very mild.
Wearing make-up is permitted the evening after the procedure. Results are visible in 2 to 8 days.

Lower face

Because Botulinum Toxin hampers muscle action, it is not recommended for the lower face which uses its muscles to help you smile. Instead, filling techniques are the treatment of choice today. These techniques provide instant results by plumping up the skin where a wrinkle has formed. The most common fillers used for this purpose are composed of hyaluronic acid.
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occurring component of the skin, and is produced through genetic engineering, without any animal particles. It is reabsorbed by the organism in 6 to 12 months. There are several categories of hyaluronic acid prescribed according to their degree of molecular reticulation. Each category corresponds to a different type of wrinkle.
Injections are performed with or without local anaesthesia (anaesthetic cream EMLA or injection) in about 30 minutes. It is important not to take aspirin for 48 hours before or after the injection. By simply using ice and sleeping with two pillows to keep your head elevated, you can significantly diminish swelling. Make-up is permitted immediately after injection; however, you should not plan to attend important social occasions on the same day.
Final results are visible after gentle swelling subsides in 24 to 48 hours. Results last 6 to 12 months depending on the patient.
